Rhizopodea

This phylum includes amoeba-like protists. They use moveable extensions of the cytoplasm as appendages which collect food or help with locomotion. This group includes the Order Foraminiferida. Forams can be planktonic (floating in water) or benthic (living on the sea floor). They also have an internal shell composed of calcite or aragonite.
